Yeah, Zatoichi is great and will definitely be reviewed, along with several of Kitano’s other movies, including Violent Cop, Kids Return and Brother.

Have you seen any of the original Zatoichi movies? I’ve only seen Zatoichi meets Yojimbo and the 1989 Zatoichi (the last “official” Zatoichi flick), which is incredibly violent.

Love your review of Battle Royale, by the way. I read the book years ago and loved it, but the graphic depictions in the manga turned me off the idea of watching the cinematic version. But it sounds like it’s worth giving a shot. Looking forward to more movie suggestions!

The Netflix reviews were fairly accurate, except for the griping about the subtitling: I didn’t have any trouble following the dialog, but then again, I can read. Oh yeah, Chow Yun-Fat FTW!
