In honor of the recent Media Matters (and Rachel Maddow) versus the Heritage Foundation controversy, I’d like to point out that Reason.com is having a “Webathon” in an attempt to get 500 donations in 8 days. Let it be known that I am on record as being a little curious about the juxtaposition of asking for donations and Reason’s never-ending Ayn Rand love-fest.
Of course, the usual suspects on the left have already taken notice, but they missed the real “gotcha” moment in the story (perhaps because they were too busy whooping ass on the straw men they had to create in order to smear Libertarians). You see, whenever someone makes a donation to Reason, they are able to enter their name in a field which will appear in a scrolling banner ad.
As this screen capture proves, Reason is supported by *gasp* Radical Islam!

Oddly enough, this is what appears just before “Radical Islam”:

The Firedog Lake post refers to “dusky welfare leeches” (wtf?), and it did not go unnoticed by a charitable Reason reader:

For regular readers of Hit & Run, some of the names showing up in the banner are hilarious. Nick Gillespie gets some love:

l-r: Reason.tv’s Drew Carey, Nick Gillespie and his trusty leather jacket
The feminist blog, Feministing – frequent fodder for hilarity in the comments at Hit & Run – gets props from a donor:

And of course, anyone familiar with the comments at Hit & Run will not be surprised by this:

UPDATE: Holy shit! Thanks to Radley Balko for tweeting this post. I think this site has received more traffic in the past two hours than it has in its entire – albeit brief – existence.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you take the time to look around (and offer suggestions for a banner for the blog).
Also, it would be great if I could write a sequel to this post, so head over to Reason now and donate (it would be nice to see a “DONDEROOOO!” banner).
UPDATE II: More here. Keep ‘em coming!

I laughed.
Until I cried.
[...] of you who donate will get to see your name (however you'd like to put it), up in the temporary banner we've got running up at the top of this blog page. If you wanted to, [...]
[...] Hit & Run commenters are hilarious. [...]
No, we just popped over to see what kind of brain-dead script kiddie you were.
Thanks for not disappointing us.
STFU, Frank.
very nice!
